Engineering Professors Jim Gibbons, John Linvill, and Jim Meindl found the Center for Integrated Systems (CIS) at Stanford. CIS is a partnership between the university and industrial firms to produce long-term commercially significant research. "Integrated systems" refers to interactions across hardware and software, and to semiconductor, electronics, and computer systems in real-world applications.
