Research Statement
Phil primarily lives in Asia where he funds and incubates early stage companies and is active as a Limited Partner in private equity. In the past, he originated and invested in multi-billion dollar media/telecom transactions as a senior executive at Kluge & Company, the private equity arm for John Kluge and Metromedia Company. While there, he executed a number of successful venture capital, growth capital, leveraged buyouts, and distressed transactions. He was also an Entrepreneur in Residence at a large venture capital firm in Silicon Valley and, as one of the early management team members at a startup, was instrumental in raising the third largest seed financing in history, in excess of US$400 million. He recently funded and co-founded Prime Networks, a technology company operating in Asia and the United States. In addition to serving on the adjunct faculty at Stanford Technology Ventures Program and Columbia University Graduate School of Business, Phil regularly teaches finance courses at Tsinghua University and Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, and Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in Shanghai.
