Research Statement

Dr. Tabrizi's expertise on organizational transformation, sales excellence, benchmarking, and product life cycle, is a rare synthesis of scholarly work and practical experience. Dr. Tabrizi has written four books on transformation - latest one, "Rapid Transformation", is dubbed by Harvard Business Press as the "most popular" book. He has served on the doctoral committee at Harvard Business School, and has taught at the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Program in "Leading and Managing Change."

His research of over 100 companies with McKinsey and Co. around the globe on "Accelerating Transformation: Process Innovations in Companies around the Globe" is dubbed by Tom Peters in Forbes, Chicago Tribute, Washington Post, and San Jose Mercury News as a "pioneering work". He has been interviewed by BBC and C-SPAN regarding his recent work on Transformation. Dr. Tabrizi's article, "Capturing the Real Value in High-Tech Acquisitions," has appeared in the Harvard Business Review. His earlier article in the Harvard Business Review was, "Excellence in Product Definition: An Inside Look."

Professor Tabrizi received the prestigious Administrative Science Quarterly 2001 Award (with Professor Eisenhardt) for Scholarly Contribution for a paper published five years earlier that had the greatest influence on subsequent theory and research in the field of management, which includes strategy, marketing, organization and operation fields. He has also received the prestigious School of Engineering Tau Beta Pi award, among over 200 Faculty members, for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, and the Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management Teacher of the year award. In winter 1994, he’s been touted as teaching the first web-based course in the world at Stanford University. Dr. Tabrizi has served as the Director of Stanford/AEA mini-MBA executive program.

Among his notable past and current consulting clients are Applied Materials, HP, Intel, IBM, IDC, Nokia, Motorola, Lucent, StanfordTelecommunication, Agilent, Oracle, Cisco, Honeywell, Nortel Networks, China Mobile, Clarify, Verisign, and several start-ups. He serves on the board of Catapult Ventures, and has served on the board of iChatterbox.com (sold to Covia Inc.), WebMBO (merged with Realm Corp.), ColumbusNewport (Venture Capital firm) and advisory board of several startups.

As a frequent traveler to China in the past four years, Professor Tabrizi has held seminars and has advised over 300 CEOs of the largest private and public Chinese companies on their Corporate Transformation. Earlier in his career, he worked for IBM as an engineer and was promoted to sales management position. Professor Tabrizi has received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from University of Kansas; M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Illinois, Urbana; and M.S. in Engineering Management and a Ph.D. in Strategy, Organizations, and Technology Management from Stanford University, IEEM
