Internship Opportunities

2008 Summer Internship Program in China

Program Overview

The School of Engineering is pleased to announce 2008 Summer Internship Program in China.  The Program aims to enhance engineering education by providing undergraduate, co-term, and Masters students an opportunity to learn about China and to gain real world work experience in a culturally diverse and international environment.

The Program will provide internship opportunities to undergraduate and Masters students from the School of Engineering who want to work and live in China. We are working closely with companies in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou to create internship opportunities and will post internship descriptions as we receive them.  Please check back for updates.

We anticipate that the selected students will arrive in China on June 18, 2008 in time to attend the program orientation. Monday, June 23, will be the day they will begin their work assignments.  The internship ends on September 12. Each intern must commit to full-time work (please see job descriptions for details) for the duration of the internship.

Eligibility

Declared Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, Co-terms and Masters students in the School of Engineering are encouraged to apply. Students who have not taken at least one quarter of Mandarin (or equivalent) will be required to take a language class in spring quarter 2008 to prepare them for a summer in China.

Although summer enrollment is not required, students are only eligible to participate in this program if they have not yet graduated.  Students who apply for summer quarter degree conferral will be considered eligible, but students whose degrees are conferred in winter or spring quarters will not be.

For summer graduation requirements, including any details of enrollment requirements and information about participation in the June commencement ceremonies, students should contact their major department's student services office.  Other sources of information and advice are: the Registrar's Office website, for University requirements and procedures; and, for undergraduates, Bertha Love (Engineering Office of Student Affairs) and the VPUE.
