The Departments of Operations Research and Engineering-Economic Systems are created. With the advent of the computer, decision making becomes subject to mathematical modeling and solutions.
Failure Analysis Associates is co-founded by materials science engineering faculty and alumni Alan Tetelman, John Shyne, and Guy Marshall Pound, and Bernard Ross, MS '59, PhD '65 (Aero/Astro). The company becomes the largest materials failure consulting firm, and is known today as Exponent.
