The School of Engineering (SoE) is created, and Theodore Jesse Hoover, AB '01 (Geology), professor of mining engineering and brother of future U.S. President Herbert Hoover, becomes the first dean.

Frederick E. Terman, AB '20 (Chemistry), ENG '22 (EE), is appointed as a half-time instructor in EE. Terman, a ham radio operator, introduces courses in radio.
