    A "dream team" of Stanford artificial intelligence researchers is building a robot that will be smart enough to be a personal aide. Work began in the Summer of 2005 and the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Robot can already open doors and grab objects.

    Students in the school have been building and racing solar-powered cars at Stanford since 1986. In 2005 they won the stock-car class in the American Solar Challenge. This video documents the preparations for that race.

    In a bid to help paralyzed people, the research group of electrical engineering Assistant Professsor Krishna Shenoy has developed a way to control a computer cursor directly from the brain. The method, tested in monkeys, has four-times better performance than any other system.

    Chemical engineering Associate Professor Zhenan Bao demonstrates flexible arrays of high-performance organic transistors in this video.
  • A 'traffic light' for neurons advances brain research | View »
    Bioengineering Assistant Professor Karl Deisseroth has found a way to turn brain cells on and off using pulses of light. The technique opens new doors for brain research and could eventually yield therapies for conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease and depression.
  • Construction of the Environment and Energy building | View »
    The Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki Environment and Energy Building is projected to use 50 percent less energy and 90 percent less water than a traditional building of comparable scale. It is scheduled to open Nov. 15, 2007

Computer Science 40th Anniversary | View »
Watch videos of all the sessions of the Computer Science Department's 40th Anniversary Symposium. Panels included founding faculty of the department, alumni teaching computer science in other departments, visionaries among the department's active faculty and famous Stanford entrepreneurs. University President John Hennessy (also a CS professor) was the keynote speaker. A simple, free registration with the Stanford Center for Professional Development is required to view these videos.
