W.R. Hewlett and D. Packard Quadrangle
Stanford Engineering is centered on the W.R. Hewlett and D. Packard Quad, located to the west of the university's historic Main Quad. Bounded by the David Packard Electrical Engineering building, Gordon and Betty Moore Materials Research building, William Gates Computer Science building, and Paul G. Allen Center for Integrated Systems, the quad is a unified complex for teaching and research in engineering and basic science.
The future has no walls
Facilities traditionally enforce boundaries. Housing departments in discrete spaces tends to reinforce their differences. Instead, we seek to emphasize their commonalities by giving physical form to diverse collaborations of researchers and teachers. Some recent examples of this philosophy in action:
The Clark Center | View
The James H. Clark Center for Biomedical Engineering and Sciences opened in 2003, providing a home for the Bio-X program, the most ambitious campuswide collaboration ever launched at Stanford — or perhaps anywhere. This joint venture of the Department of Bioengineering and the schools of Medicine and Humanities and Sciences fosters an unprecedented synergy among scientists and students from many different disciplines as they address the most pressing scientific and medical challenges of the coming decades.
The Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki Environment and Energy Building | View
Stanford dedicated the award-winning new building March 4, 2008. "Y2E2," as it's known, is a 166,000 sq. ft. "coming together" place that is the home to the Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford, the Precourt Institute for Energy Efficiency, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and other interdisciplinary programs such as the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in the Environment and Resources (IPER), the Global Climate and Energy Project, and the Bill Lane Center for the Study of the North American West.
Sustainability at Stanford | View
Stanford is committed to minizing its environmental footprint and is looking at a wide variety of its operations land and buildings, transportation, dining services and more.
Labs and centers | View
Stanford Engineering runs more than 65 departmental labs, research centers, and industrial affiliate programs.
Libraries
Stanford University maintains dozens of libraries and academic information resources, including more than 8 million volumes and thousands of databases.
The Engineering Library | View
One of seven science libraries on campus, the engineering library is located in the Terman Engineering Center. It contains approximately 1,700 active serials, 45,000 books, 5,500 theses, and thousands of technical reports.
Other libraries | View
Stanford's other libraries and collections include specialized holdings in biology, chemistry and chemical engineering, earth sciences, mathematical and computer sciences, medicine, and physics.
Socrates | View
Socrates is the universitywide online search tool for libraries and collections. The service also provides access to a variety of databases, as well as full documentation of the Engineering Library's resources and services.
