Awards received by faculty for the fiscal year September, 1995 through August, 1996
Mary G. Baker, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship and a Terman Fellowship.

Craig T. Bowman, Mechanical Engineering, was awarded the Humboldt Award for Senior U.S. Scientists.

Margaret L. Brandeau, Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, was awarded the Best Paper Award, Society for Computer Simulation, at the 1996 Conference on Simulation in the Medical Sciences. She also received a five-year grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

John C. Bravman, Materials Science and Engineering, was selected a Stanford University Fellow, 1995-1997.

John Cioffi, Electrical Engineering, was elected an IEEE Fellow and was the winner of the 1995 American National Standards Institute T1 Outstanding Achievement Award.

Bruce M. Clemens, Materials Science and Engineering, was awarded the ASM Materials Research Division Research Silver Medal.

Richard W. Cottle, Engineering-Economic Systems and Operations Research, was awarded the Lanchester Prize (INFORMS).

Robert W. Dutton, Electrical Engineering, was awarded the IEEE Jack A. Morton Award (1996).

Robert S. Feigelson, Materials Science and Engineering, was awarded the 1995 triennial Laudise Prize of the International Organization of Crystal Growth for outstanding achievements in crystal growth in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Martin Fischer, Civil Engineering, was awarded The NSF Career Award.

Michael J. Flynn, Electrical Engineering, was awarded (together with Steve Fu) the Best Paper Award at the 15th IEEE annual International Conference on Computers and Communications in Phoenix, AZ (IPCCC š96).

Huajian Gao, Mechanical Engineering, was awarded the 1995-96 Guggenheim Fellowship and granted Visiting Professorship by the University of Cambridge, UK, the University of Paderborn, Germany, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong.

James F. Gibbons, Electrical Engineering, was given the Semiconductor Industry Associationšs University Research Award for many years of leadership in university research in support of the U.S. Semiconductor Industry. He also received the American Electronics Association Medal of Achievement Award for accomplishments in the field of technical education, efforts in semiconductor research, and active advocacy of technology in educational concerns.

Gene H. Golub, Computer Science, was awarded an Honorary Degree by the University of Umea, Sweden, and an Honorary Degree from the Australian National University in Canberra. He also gave the Johann Bernoulli Lecture at Groningen, The Netherlands.

Joseph W. Goodman, Electrical Engineering, was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and received an Honorary Doctor of Sciences Degree from the University of Alabama.

Kenneth Goodson, Mechanical Engineering, was awarded the Terman Fellowship from the School of Engineering at Stanford University, 1995-1998. He also received the Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research, 1996-1999, and the CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation, 1996-2000.

Robert M. Gray, Electrical Engineering, was selected as a Plenary Speaker at the International Conference on Telecommuications, Istanbul, Turkey, April 1996.

Ronald K. Hanson, Mechanical Engineering, was named the first recipient of the Aerodynamic Measurement Technology Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

James S. Harris, Electrical Engineering, was awarded the Outstanding Paper Award at the 1995 International Solid State Devices and Materials Symposium, Yokohama, Japan.

Warren H. Hausman, Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, was awarded the 1996 IEEM Teaching Award.

Lambertus Hesselink, Electrical Engineering, has been appointed a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the United States Air Force. He has also been elected to the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences.

George M. Homsy, Chemical Engineering, was awarded the Bing Award for Teaching.

Kosuke Ishii, Mechanical Engineering, was made an AT&T Foundation Industrial Ecology Fellow. He also received the 1996 General Motors Outstanding Distance Learning Faculty Award.

Mark Z. Jacobson, Civil Engineering, was awarded a National Science Foundation Career Early Development Award.

Blake E. Johnson, Engineering-Economic Systems and Operations Research, was made a Jack A. McCullough Faculty Scholar, 1995-96.

Chaitan S. Khosla, Chemical Engineering, won the E. Bright Wilson Prize from Harvard University and was named the Jozef Fried Lecturer by the University of Chicago.

Donald Knuth, Computer Science, was awarded the prestigious Kyoto Prize in Computer Science.

Daphne Koller, Computer Science, was awarded the Sloan Foundation Fellowship, 1996.

Thomas J. Kosnik, Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, was awarded the 1996 IEEM Teaching Award.
